After having teeth straightened, or a misaligned bite corrected, the dentist will make a custom-fit retainer that is necessary if all the good work is not to be undone. Retainers are necessary because they:

Prevent teeth shifting back to their original position

Help to align the jaws

Prevent the necessity of further dental work

Most modern devices are almost invisible and any inconvenience is far outweighed by the consequences of not wearing your retainer which can result in serious dental complications that may require surgery.
