Why Get Children’s Braces Before Age 10?

Braces represent an effective means to treat a host of orthodontic problems. Dentists are encouraging parents to get their child evaluated for orthodontics at an early age (age 6 or 7) for a variety of reasons.

The teeth are more easily repositioned, so treatment is quicker. Severe bite problems can be corrected much more easily at a younger age. Your child can grow up more confident with a great smile and straight teeth. And today’s braces are much more fun, with brightly coloured elastics in the child’s favourite colours.

It is important that the braces are cared for properly. What are three takeaway points which parents should address?

  • Always promote the proper brushing and flossing techniques.
  • Make certain that the child addresses hard-to-reach areas.
  • Mild pain medication may be provided if there is mild discomfort.

Braces today tend to be less uncomfortable and less visible than they used to be.
